BOTTLES SINCE 2022

OUR STORY

Hi there we are Vihaan & Ishaan. Two brothers on a mission to reduce glass waste.

We may be a small tribe, but we’re on a big mission… a mission bigger than the mountains of bottles piling up in landfills. Our mission is all about improving the circular economy, by upcycling and reducing the amount of bottles in landfills.

One day on a curious trip to the local recycling centre we saw a truckload of thrash teeming with glass bottles headed for the nearby landfill.

This is when we learnt, that despite bottles being recyclable, heaps end up in landfills… quite bizarre, right? Glass takes a frightening 4000 years to decompose if left in the environment. Every time we leave a recipient of this kind in the countryside, we are putting the environment and its ecosystem at risk. As occurs with many of the elements above, animals can cut themselves on glass or ingest it without being able to digest it. The clear threat of landfills getting clogged with thousands of tonnes of glass waste is what prompted me to found GlassUp with a clear goal to reuse and repurpose glass waste to create new and beautiful products that would help in reducing the carbon footprint left by discarded glass bottles in the landfills. I set up a local collection drive in my city to collect glass waste from homes , restaurants & clubs on a weekly basis.

The amount of surplus and waste bottles was far greater than we expected. We were also surprised to find out that bottles were being rejected BEFORE they were even used. Glass is a really versatile resource, and it can be infinitely recycled, upcycled and reused but most garbage collection systems smash and contaminate the glass before it has the chance of a new life, meaning it ends up in landfill.

In 2022, Glass Up was founded with the motivation to turn empty alcohol bottles into something new and sustainable. From the very beginning, we wanted to make a product with the highest quality by reviving existing materials and increasing their life cycle, thereby reducing landfill waste and contributing to fewer carbon emissions released into the atmosphere. Glass Up makes a wide variety of products by upcycling empty and discarded glass bottles. We aim at continuing to create a product and a company that strives for a higher level of craftsmanship and care.

I’m Nysa Garg, a 16-year-old student Pathways School, Gurgaon.

As the Sales & Marketing Head at Glass Up for me this is an idea which can push the envelope for sustainability in India. It is a project that has innovation, design and its heart in the right place. At GlassUp, we have an ingenious approach to repurposing glass waste. With this neglected and ecologically damaging glass waste, we try to make something beautiful and worthwhile in the forms of the numerous products that GlassUp offers.

GlassUp transcends the conventional notion of sustainability for me; it represents a fusion of environmental consciousness with a cause that resonates deeply within us.

My journey with GlassUp has been truly transformative, providing me with the opportunity to pursue endeavors close to my heart. On a personal level, working with this exceptional team has facilitated significant personal growth. I view GlassUp not merely as an initiative but as a movement, and I invite you all to join us in catalyzing a revolution that stimulates minds, liberates hearts, and contributes to making the world a better place.

Creating A 4 step impact

1

Collection

Collecting empty glass waste by organising collection drives and weekly Pick ups from restaurants, cafés & clubs

2

Repurposing / Upcycling

Getting the glass bottles cut finished and ready for its new use is an important step of our process. Once this is done the finished glass jars are filled with hand poured and 100% natural scented soy wax to create the candles. The finished product is then branded and properly packed in eco-friendly packaging and it is ready for sale

3

Social Impact

GlassUp is a social startup and our aim is two fold … besides taking a step to create a positive environmental impact we also hope to give back to society by donating our profits to Cuddles Foundation.
Cuddles Foundation was Established in 2013 and has been working with government and charity cancer hospitals, enabling them with trained pediatric oncology nutritionists and food aid so that more children may win the battle
against childhood cancer

4

Reducing carbon footprint

The broken glass halves & unused bottles are collected and sent for recycling to bigger factories so that they do not land up in landfills

RECYCLED BOTTLES

MADE FROM RECYCLED BOTTLES

Glass Up is a unique company that makes all-natural wax candles, drinking glasses, self-watering planters, Carafe sets and vases out of recycled glass bottles. We take any discarded beer/wine/liquor bottles to reuse that glass in a more beneficial and creative way. We create various products by cutting off the tops of bottles and smoothing out the edges. Glass Up has made many thousands of trashed bottles into something more significant. Handcrafted in India, we believe in sourcing our supplies from here.
